Young Actors Klub Performs in Sandisfield
The public is invited to attend "Love in Two Eras" on Sunday, September 16 at 2 p.m. at the Sandisfield Arts Center, Hammerton Rd. in Sandisfield, MA. This is an amateur performance of two original plays, Love and Lust and One Fine Morning, written by 14-year-old Hope deManbey of Sandisfield. It will be performed by a group of Berkshire County youths who make up the Young Actors Klub.
The Young Actors Klub is an independent group of children, ages 8-14, who joined together to perform these plays. They have dedicated many hours of their summer vacation to rehearsal for this show. Its members include six 14-year-olds who are currently freshmen at Monument Mountain Regional High School. Hope deManbey, Scott Salame, Jennie Kain, Brian Rice, Adrienne Formel and Jesse Lefkowitz are all artistically active, and have had prior experience acting in school plays. The youngest members of the cast are Hope's two sisters, Cassandra and Samantha, ages 12 and 11, and her brother, William, age 8.
The Young Actors Klub has received a great deal of support from family, friends, community services and businesses. Numerous friends and family members have helped in contributing furniture, props and costuming. Local writer Val Coleman made the set available from his production of The Stamp Collection. Hope's father, Hugh, a carpenter, provided the time and labor in altering and painting the set. The Bill Crofut Fund and the Sandisfield Cultural Council provided funding for production costs and materials. Carl's True Value in Winsted donated paint for the scenery, and C.W. Nelson Landscaping in Sandisfield donated flowers. The Sandisfield Arts Center provided the use of its building and the opportunity to make this performance possible.
Love in Two Eras consists of two plays, which are love stories written from the imagining of a 13-year-old girl. They are reminiscent of old movies. The plots are simple, and the characters are black and white. Theatergoers are recommended to be age 10 or older due to brief violence and sexual allusions. Love and Lust is a 19th century melodrama and One Fine Morning is an early 20th century romance. The children promise to do their best to make the show, in the least, entertaining.
