Mary Tomolonius for First Selectman
By Kathleen Corkum, Canton
I am supporting Mary Tomolonius for First Selectman. Mary has been a member of the Board of Selectmen for six years, and has served as Deputy First Selectman for the past four years. She is a highly organized, dedicated and ethical person.
Mary is first and foremost a leader. In addition to serving on the Board of Selectmen, Mary is past president of the Canton Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Farmington Valley Visitors Association, past president of the Canton Youth Soccer Association, past president of the Canton Junior High PTO, past president of the Canton Creative Arts Council, former member of the Collinsville Historic District Commission, and she has chaired the Sam Collins Day Committee since its inception seven years ago. Mary's energy and drive make her a natural-born leader.
As the owner and operator of a small business in Canton, she understands what the bottom line means, what it means to meet a deadline, and what it means to be self-employed. She understands the issues of taxes, sewer use bills, and health benefit costs.
As a member of the Board of Selectmen she studies the issues, listens carefully and gathers the facts before reaching a conclusion. Once she has made her decision, she is firm in her commitment and not swayed by opposing viewpoints. She is a dedicated member of the Board, and takes on many extra assignments willingly. Mary formats the quarterly newsletter, co-chaired the open space subcommittee, served as a member of the union negotiating team, was liaison to the Economic Development Agency, and served on the study committee for the development of the Industrial Park.
Mary's business is in town; she will be here every day, she will be accessible to the people and responsive to the issues and concerns of residents, and she will make thoughtful decisions that affect the long-term interests of the town. I support Mary Tomolonius for First Selectman of Canton, and I urge you to do so as well.
