TORRINGTON: Wal-Mart holds its 5th annual Veterans Day Celebration from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Radio Grill. A coffee hour with pastries, coffee and tea begins at 10 a.m. A lunch of soup, sandwiches, fruit and beverages will be available at noon. TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.
TORRINGTON: The 226th birthday of the founding of the United States Marine Corps will be celebrated at the Torrington Elks Lodge; muster at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m., followed by "Sea Stories." All Marines and Navy Corpsmen attached to Marine units are invited. GOSHEN: The Town of Goshen hosts a retirement luncheon for Selectman Henrietta C. Horway from noon-1 p.m. at Camp Cochipianee. Henrietta has served Goshen for over 20 years as selectman. All who wish to honor Henrietta for her many years of service are invited; please call Dale Ives at 491-2249 if you plan to attend.
TORRINGTON: The Veterans Service Office holds its Veterans Day program at 10:40 a.m. at Coe Civic Center. The program commences with prayer by the chaplain and remarks by the mayor. Tom Presto, Commander of VFW Post 9086, will offer his comments, and medals will be presented to veterans. At 11 a.m., a military firing squad from the CT State Guard Reserve will fire three volleys, followed by an American Legion bugler playing "Taps," and a CT State Guard piper playing "Amazing Grace." The program will be held outside if weather permits; coffee and donuts will be available inside the Civic Center. For more info call 860-489-2531.
TORRINGTON: Beth El Synagogue offers a preschool program for families and young children from 10:45 a.m.-noon. Crafts, games and stories focus on upcoming Jewish holidays and include an introduction to Jewish traditions and Torah stories; this month’s topic is Noah’s Ark. LITCHFIELD: Wamogo High School Student Council holds its annual Veterans Day Breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria. In addition to honoring veterans, this year’s breakfast will honor firefighters, police officers, and other rescue workers in recognition of their efforts during the tragedy of September 11 and their continued service to the community.

THOMASTON: First United Methodist Church sponsors a Harvest Dinner from 5-7 p.m. in the church hall. Menu includes ham, oven roasted potatoes, butternut squash, corn, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 children (12 and under); $25 family price includes two adults and up to four children.
TORRINGTON: Holy Trinity Church, 64 Berry St. (one block west of Migeon Ave.) holds its annual Kolach and Bake Sale from 9 a.m.-noon. NORTHFIELD: Northfield Volunteer Fire Co., 12 Main St. holds a breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. at the firehouse. The regular menu includes all the pancakes you can eat, sausage, coffee and juice for $4. French toast, eggs and home fries will also be available. A Hungryman’s Special consisting of all of the above costs $5.
