Please Contribute to United Way
By Dave Dolinsky and Roberta Lee August
At a recent United Way meeting with the executive directors of the 23 member agencies, we listened to concerns regarding the increasing needs of clientele, the pressures put on existing staff, and the need for more support. The ability to accomplish the missions of these worthy agencies is further stressed by the decrease in financial support brought about by the downturn in our economy.
At the beginning of President Lincoln's first term he talked about the endurance of democracy. He stated, "Time changes so much, brick and mortar get old and the infrastructure that holds the institutions age, but the reason our institutions do not lose their heart is because people renew the organizations' missions with their time, their faith, their money, their sacrifice, their energy, and their visions, and nothing can touch it because it is dynamic, and unlike the brick and mortar it has life."
The events of September 11 have caused us all to pause and reconsider our priorities, but our member agencies cannot stop to reconsider their missions. Thousands of people in the Northwest Corner continue to depend on their help. This is a challenging task. Through our United Way you can help the individuals who are served by these agencies.
Please contribute whatever you can now to our United Way campaign. By doing so you will help keep the spirit of caring alive in our communities.
Dave Dolinsky is President of the Board of Directors, and Roberta Lee August is Chairperson of the 2001 Campaign of United Way of Northwest Connecticut, Inc.
