TORRINGTON: First CT Open Bible Church, 139 New Litchfield St. hosts an all-night prayer vigil starting at 7 p.m. There will be testimonies, music, scripture and prayer for the needs of the Torrington area, the nation and the world. Individual prayer needs will also be attended to. All are welcome and encouraged to attend any part or all of this special time of prayer.

WINSTED: McCarthy Senior Center activities—crafts with Alice LeVesque at 10 a.m.; free legal advice with Debra Brown from 11 a.m.-noon; lunch at noon; bingo with Evelyn Ruffenach at 1 p.m.

Saturday, November 17

CANTON: Canton High School holds its 2nd annual Canton Community Veteran’s Day Breakfast at 9:30 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Students Sarah Miner and Abigail Daley ar co-chairs for the event, which is being sponsored by the school, local businesses and organizations. It is the goal of the organizing committee to include as many veterans as possible. THOMASTON: First United Methodist Church sponsors a Harvest Dinner from 5-7 p.m. in the church hall. Menu includes ham, oven roasted potatoes, butternut squash, corn, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 children (12 and under); $25 family price includes two adults and up to four children.

TORRINGTON: Holy Trinity Church, 64 Berry St. (one block west of Migeon Ave.) holds its annual Kolach and Bake Sale from 9 a.m.-noon. In addition to the wide variety of baked goods, the Slavic specialty kolach will be available in nut, poppy seed and prune filling. Reserve your order by calling 482-6100 or 489-9946.

TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Sunday, November 18

GREAT BARRINGTON: The Southern Berkshire Clergy Association and the Interfaith Committee of South Berkshire County invite the community to an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 4 p.m. at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, 270 State Rd. (Route 23). Members of the clergy representing various religious communities will take part in the service, and guest speaker Dr. Mark Pettus of the Berkshire Medical Center will address "On Gratitude and Healing." Refreshments will be served following the service. Those attending are encouraged to bring canned goods for the People’s Pantry; the offering received during the service will benefit the Pantry as well. For more info call Hevreh at 413-528-6378.

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Volunteer Fire Co., 12 Main St. holds a breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. at the firehouse. The regular menu includes all the pancakes you can eat, sausage, coffee and juice for $4. French toast, eggs and home fries will also be available. A Hungryman’s Special consisting of all of the above costs $5. RIVERTON: Ham Dinner sponsored by Riverton Congregational Church at the Riverton Grange Hall from noon-1:30 p.m. Open to the public; for reservations call 379-6302 or 379-3512.

Monday, November 19

LITCHFIELD: Community Center adult activities—yoga at 11 a.m.; movie "Life Is Beautiful" at 1 p.m.; Weight Watchers meeting at 5 p.m.; American Military History lecture from 7:30-9 p.m.

MORRIS: South Farms-Morris AARP Chapter #4987 holds it regular monthly meeting at 1:15 p.m. at Morris Senior Center. The guest speaker will be Jeff Daniels, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the State of CT Civil Preparedness 5th District Office. He will discuss drinking water, concerns about radon as well as anthrax, and the need to avoid panic but to use common sense.

TORRINGTON: Sullivan Senior Center activities—Seniorcize at 9 a.m.; needlework at 9:30 a.m.; Creative Crafts at 1:30 p.m.; Elderly Commission meeting at 5:30 p.m.

COLLINSVILLE: Collinsville Congregational Church, 7 South St. holds its 13th annual Thanksgiving Dinner at 12:30 p.m. This is a community service for Valley residents who would otherwise be alone and would like company and a home cooked meal. There is no charge for the dinner, but a free will offering will be accepted. Rides will be provided, and meals will be delivered to shut-ins. Reservations are requested by November 20; for more info or to offer to help (kitchen, drivers, or food donations), call Marty Simmons at 693-6148.
