Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury hosts SELECTING THE COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS on Tuesday, November 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Gillian Oeschilin of Prompt, Inc. will present an overview of current hardware and software options available for small businesses, as well as features and quality to look for, where to shop, and where to obtain help. New business owners who are shopping for a system and existing business owners looking to upgrade their equipment and software will find this program useful. University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension Center, 843 University Drive in Torrington sponsors a WREATHMAKING WORKSHOP with Joyce Lake on Wednesday, November 28 from 7-9 p.m. Participants will create a holiday wreath using a variety of fresh greens, ribbon, and pine cones. Ms. Lake will demonstrate techniques for assembling and provide all the materials needed for your festive decoration. No experience is required; participants will prepare a wreath in class to take home. Cost is $20; to register call 860-626-6240

Goshen Recreation Department sponsors STAMP CAMP on Friday, November 30 from 7-9 p.m. at Camp Cochipianee, Beach St. in Goshen. Learn new techniques for stamping and scrapbooking from instructor Amy Corey. There will be three make and take projects (one holiday and two regular), along with several new techniques to inspire you. Stamp Camp is for beginners as well as seasoned stampers and scrapbookers. Northwestern CT Community College, Park Place East in Winsted sponsors an INTRODUCTORY CLIMBING COURSE with Tom Dore and Melissa Bettigole; two sessions will be offered. Session One will be Friday, November 30 from 6:30-9 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 from 1-3:30 p.m. Session Two will be Friday, December 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 30 from 1-3:30 p.m. This course is for students of varying abilities with emphasis placed upon group skills and climbing. Concentration in this introductory course will be on the theory as well as the practical components of wall climbing. Students will learn the fundamentals of knots, equipment, rope signals, belaying, and rope handling techniques. Simsbury Public Library, Route 10 in Simsbury holds a GENEALOGY SOCIAL on Thursday, December 6 from 7-9 p.m. in the library’s Program Room. Judith Johnson will tell about using the Connecticut Historical Society Library. Nancy Doane will tell about the Godfrey Library in Middletown. Miss Roberts will demonstrate live Internet. This will be an opportunity to discover what's new in genealogy and share any new things you have discovered. Have some fun, and meet others who are also doing family history/ genealogy research.
