Thank You, Ronnie Alicata
By Charles "Chuck" Smith, West Hartland
In the town of Hartland, here in the land of steady habits, often we can forget that change is inevitable.
Ronnie Alicata came to the Hartland Selectmen's office under unusual circumstances, first filling in as selectman and then assuming the first selectman's position when long-time incumbent Bill Hodge resigned his position this year at the end of July. As a member of the Board of Finance, I have had the opportunity to work with Ronnie.
Having never previously met Ronnie, I knew little about who she was, what her qualifications might be, or how things might be different under a new first selectman. As a Republican, I was unsure as to what Ronnie, a Democrat, might do or be.
As a Hartland resident, I have also interacted with the Board of Selectmen with Ronnie in the first selectman's chair. Here again, Ronnie acted responsibly, giving my concerns her full attention, even showing courtesies that were not required—which showed me what a truly decent person Ronnie really is.
It seems to me that Ronnie never faltered, missed a step or otherwise failed the town during her stay in the Selectmen's office, working tirelessly in this often-thankless position. It is with respect and gratitude that I confidently state that Ronnie has been, is, and will continue to be a valuable resource working as she sees fit in the best interest of Hartland's residents.
Ronnie Alicata is a class act.
