CANAAN: Canaan Northwest Lions Club hosts a Family Breakfast Buffet with continuous servings from 8-11 a.m. at the V.F.W. Hall. Menu includes scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Cost is $5 adults, $3 children (under 10), children under 3 free; proceeds benefit the clubs community service projects.
TORRINGTON: The Catholic Inter-Parish Adult Education Initiative hosts a presentation by Dr. Joan Kelly on the historical basis for Lent from 2-4 p.m. in the cafeteria at St. Francis School on Prospect St. Dr. Kelly is the Director of Religious Education for the Diocese of Bridgeport, and a Professor of Religious Studies at Sacred Heart University. She will share how the Season of Lent originated, its meaning, and its connection to the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation). Free; people of all faith traditions are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the program.

CANTON: Cantons Economic Development Agency (EDA) holds the Canton Business Summit 2002 from 7:15-9 a.m. at the Canton Community Center. The Business Summit is designed to introduce the EDAs mission, goals and members; launch the "Canton Means Business" action plan designed to jump-start initiatives aimed at retaining and attracting businesses; provide a valuable, informal setting in which business leaders can network and exchange ideas and services; and provide the EDA and town officials with the valuable insight and experience of business owners. TORRINGTON: The Crossroads Junior Youth Group hosts a Bakery Sale from 9 a.m.-noon at the First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave. There will be homemade cakes, cookies, muffins, breads and more for your sweet tooth. Also available will be the churchs own cookbook.

LITCHFIELD: The American Legion Auxiliary holds its annual Beef Stew Supper from 4-7 p.m. downstairs at the American Legion Home on Route 202. Menu includes beef stew or chicken soup, salad, bread and dessertall you can eat. Donations are $6 adults, $3 children (under 12); tickets will be available at the door or from any Auxiliary member. Proceeds will benefit one of the Auxiliarys biggest projects, purchasing Christmas gifts for the families of the veterans in Connecticuts veterans hospitals.
