Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters at University of Hartford

Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters, local musicians known throughout the world for their expertise in country, folk, bluegrass and Western swing music, will appear at the University of Hartford on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilde Auditorium, located in the Harry Jack Gray Center. This concert is part of the 2002 "Music for a Change" benefit concert series; proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Gallatin lived in several states before settling in the west. During her ten years in Idaho and Montana, she had the good fortune of being able to work at two of her loves in life: horses and music. While wintering in New England in 1992, Gallatin met some Connecticut musicians, and in the fall of 1993 she moved east to pursue her music; before that time, her performing background was as a solo artist out West.

Once in Connecticut, Gallatin went to work on her first album, Northern Girl. It was in recording Northern Girl that Stillwaters—composed of Kevin Lynch, Roger Williams and John Urbanik—was formed. Lynch, a Connecticut native, is well known in acoustic music circles for his instrumental virtuosity. His intense, precise lyrical style complements Gallatin's vocals perfectly. In addition to appearing as a guest musician on various recording projects, Lynch hosts a weekly bluegrass radio show on WWUH and currently sits on the advisory board of the Bill Monroe Foundation.

Williams, noted for his masterful touch on the resophonic guitar, has an extensive list of bluegrass and folk recording credits, including albums with Joe Val, Don Stover, Delia Bell and Bill Grant, and many more. In 1999, he was an invited guest musician/ instructor at the annual Dobro Festival in the Czech Republic.

Urbanik, who lives in Salem, CT, is a seasoned musician who previously owned and operated the Cardinal Sound recording studio with his brother, Don. Urbanik, who plays several instruments from percussion to string bass, brings his knowledge of diverse styles of music to the band.

The University of Hartford is located at 200 Bloomfield Ave. in West Hartford. Tickets are $15; for ticket info call the university box office at 860-768-4228, or 800-274-8587.
