Friday, March 1

COLEBROOK: Senior Center activities–lunch at noon (call 738-9521 by noon Thursday for reservations).

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities–Bereavement Group facilitated by Friends of Hospice at 9 a.m.; Senior exercise class at 10:30 a.m.; creative writing group from 1-3 p.m.; teen program for students in grades 7-9 ($5, dance with Powerstation DJ) from 7-10 p.m.

RIVERTON: Riverton Grange meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall on Route 20. The lecturer will present a program about Fuji. Refreshments will be served by Fran and Joe Barber.

WINSTED: McCarthy Senior Center activities–crafts with Alice LeVesque at 10 a.m.; lunch with Gert and friends at noon; bingo with Evelyn Ruffenach at 1 p.m.

WINSTED: Winsted AARP #1051 meets at 1:30 p.m. in the recreation room at Chestnut Grove. "Energy Bingo" will be led by Mrs. Gerry Zayas of CL&P; prizes will be awarded and conservation information will be available. The Board of Directors will meet at 12:30 p.m.

 

Saturday, March 2

BANTAM: Tyler-Seward-Kurbish American Legion Post #44 conducts its monthly Veteran of the Month program at 10 a.m. at the All Wars Memorial on Route 202. This month’s ceremony will honor World War I veteran Charles J. Dempsey. Mr. Dempsey was a lifelong resident of the community and was active in civic and business affairs. He passed away on February 17, 1960; he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Maddox of Bethlehem. The public is invited.

TORRINGTON: The Crossroads Junior Youth Group hosts a Bakery Sale from 9 a.m.-noon at the First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave. There will be homemade cakes, cookies, muffins, breads and more for your sweet tooth. Also available will be the church’s own cookbook.

TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

 

Sunday, March 3

LITCHFIELD: The American Legion Auxiliary holds its annual Beef Stew Supper from 4-7 p.m. downstairs at the American Legion Home on Route 202. Menu includes beef stew or chicken soup, salad, bread and dessert–all you can eat. Donations are $6 adults, $3 children (under 12); tickets will be available at the door or from any Auxiliary member. Proceeds will benefit one of the Auxiliary’s biggest projects, purchasing Christmas gifts for the families of the veterans in Connecticut’s veterans hospitals. Monday, March 4

COLEBROOK: Senior Center activities–Rubber Stamping Club at 10 a.m.; lunch at noon (call 738-9521 by noon Friday for reservations); movie "Miss Congeniality" and popcorn at 1 p.m.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities–yoga at 11 a.m.; movie "Rat Race" at 1 p.m.; Weight Watchers meeting at 5 p.m.; Audubon meeting at 7 p.m.; American Wars lecture series with LTC (retired) Terrence McGurk ($2) from 7:30-9 p.m.

WINSTED: McCarthy Senior Center activities–exercise to Richard Simmons tape at 8 a.m.; movie "A Bug’s Life" at 10 a.m.; lunch with Gert and friends at noon; chorus at 1 p.m.; public bingo at 6 p.m.

 

Tuesday, March 5

CANTON: The Preschool Early Intervention Team holds a one-hour screening for 3-year-olds at Cherry Brook Primary School; to schedule an appointment, call 693-7765.

COLEBROOK: Senior Center activities–exercise with Jan from 9-9:30 a.m.; shopping in Winsted and/or Torrington at 1 p.m.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center adult activities–painting with friends (all artists welcome) from 9 a.m.-noon; Crafters Corner meets from 10 a.m.-noon; computer class ($60, register by March 2) from 1-3 p.m.; Senior bingo from 1-3 p.m.

WINSTED: McCarthy Senior Center activities–lunch with Gert and friends at noon.

 

Wednesday, March 6

BRISTOL: The Mothers of Multiples of Greater Bristol meet at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 31 Maple St. Elin Larsen will present a program on yoga. This club is a support group for mothers of twins, triplets and higher orders. New members are always welcome; for more info call membership chair Cheryl Wadhwa at 860-584-8875.

COLEBROOK: Senior Center activities–bus trip to Mohegan Sun leaves at 7:15 a.m.; Quilting Club from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Bridge Club from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

GREAT BARRINGTON: An ecumenical Lenten service will be held at 7 p.m. at Great Barrington United Methodist Church.

HARWINTON: Harwinton Women’s Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Harwinton Senior Center on Weingart Rd. Final plans for the annual Babysitting Course will be made during the business meeting. The club is extending an invitation to the women of Harwinton to join this service organization, which has been a mainstay of the Harwinton community for over 35 years. It has recently published its "Community Cues" booklet, which is available to newcomers and has listed the town’s leaders and organizations, the town map, and many other helpful items; they are available at the Town Hall free of charge.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center adult activities–yoga (open to public) at 9:30 a.m.; watercolor class from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; bridge at 12:30 p.m.; yoga at 7:30 p.m.

TORRINGTON: Litchfield County BPW Club meets at the Venetian Restaurant with networking at 5:30 p.m., business meeting at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by aesthetician Colleen M. GOSHEN: Goshen Garden Club meets at 1 p.m. in the Meeting Room at Church of Christ Congregational, Routes 4 & 63. Following the business meeting and dessert, a program entitled "How Our Landscapes Affect Our Waterways" will be presented by Margery Winters, Director of Research and Programs for Rivers Alliance of CT. She will speak on the health of our 5,000 miles of rivers and streams, and what Goshen gardeners can do to help Connecticut’s waterways. There will also be a member house plant display and/or exchange. The public is welcome.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities–blood pressure screening at 9:30 a.m.; creative writing group from 10 a.m.-noon; computer class from 1-3 p.m.; Women’s Forum with guest speakers from CT Women’s Hall of Fame at 3:30 p.m.; "Women and Heart Disease" program with health screenings, followed by talk with cardiologist Dr. Carrie Wolfberg and R.N. Laurene Wallace at 6 p.m.; advanced Italian class at 6:30 p.m.

CANAAN: Canaan Northwest Lions Club hosts a Chicken and Polenta/ Corned Beef and Cabbage Buffet Dinner with continuous servings from 5-7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. Menu includes chicken and polenta or corned beef and cabbage along with potatoes, carrots and dessert. Cost is $10 adults, $5 children (under 10), under age 3 free; take-out orders will be available. LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities–yoga at 9:30 a.m.; opera lecture series from 10 a.m.-noon; Irish music with P.V. O’Donnell ($10) at 8 p.m.

TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

TORRINGTON: First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave. holds a Roast Beef Dinner fundraiser for church programming from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Menu includes delicious roast beef, potatoes, vegetables, and fresh homemade pie. Tickets are $8 adults, $4 children (under 12); take-outs will be available. The church, which is handicapped-accessible, also serves as a meeting place for the Four Corner Circle Women’s Fellowship Group, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Grange #20, and other community groups.
