Report on Annual Meeting
From the Winsted Health Center Foundation
The Winsted Health Center Foundation is pleased to announce that 20 corporators were re-elected and 12 new corporators were added to the Foundation roster at its Annual Meeting held on Sunday, February 24 at First Church of Winsted, bringing the total number of corporators to 73.
Corporators learned at the Annual Meeting that the Foundation has been sued by current and former corporators Patsy Renzullo, Richard Ackermann, Ray Pavlak, William Riiska and Dr. Richard Munch. The papers were served the day before the annual meeting. Mr. Riiska, who was seeking election, as well as other supporters of the suing team, were defeated by a considerable margin. Dr. Munch withdrew as a candidate for re-election prior to the vote.
Defendants specifically named in the lawsuit include Blanche McCarthy Sewell, Robert Ellsworth, Deirdre DiCara, Michelle Martin, Dr. Michael Tinkler, Laurence Hannafin, Claire Nader, Sarah Gauger, Dr. Fred Hyde and Carol Crossman. The complaint alleges that the Foundation acted beyond its authority in permitting such people as Blanche McCarthy Sewell to be members of the Foundation.
"This meritless lawsuit is just a feeble attempt to substitute the view of this disgruntled minority for the judgment of the majority of corporators and the entire board of trustees," said Community Layer Charlene LaVoie, who is representing the Foundation in this matter. Attorney LaVoie proposes that sanctions be sought against the plaintiffs and their lawyer for filing a baseless lawsuit intended to harass and maliciously injure the Foundation.
"One need only read the rambling, unsubstantiated complaint to realize that this group is way out of touch," said Foundation President Richard Michaelsen.
