Sloan Wainwright at Roaring Brook

Sloan Wainwright performs at the Roaring Brook Nature Center, 70 Gracey Rd. in Canton on Saturday, March 9 at 8 p.m.

Sloan Wainwright is a highly original singer-songwriter and a compelling performer who is best known for her soulful earthy contralto, which has been likened to that of artists such as Joan Armatrading and Toni Childs. Sloan's music has been critically acclaimed for her innovative merging of distinctive elements of folk, rock, jazz and blues, and for her poignant gift of word and haunting melodies that sing out with passion and power over evocative rhythms.

Sloan has shared the stage with a virtual who's who in contemporary music, including Shawn Colvin, Ani DiFranco, Rufus Wainwright and Martin Sexton. This month she has released her much-anticipated third CD entitled T he Song Inside, which is being lauded as a pivotal and defining work.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door; for more info call 860-693-0263.
