Which Side Are You On?
By Ed Buley, Winsted
Recent statements made by Tom Daschle, a Senator from South Dakota, prove that Capitol Hill Democrats will stop at nothing in order to undermine Republicans however they can. Enemies of the United States must be getting great satisfaction form this high-ranking Democrat's comments criticizing President Bush's handling of the war on terrorism, because they have been anticipating this type of partisan activity from our so-called leaders.
Osama bin Laden's strategy for success has always included the expectation that America was too divided to conquer a determined enemy. Daschle's unpatriotic statements criticizing the President during wartime can only serve to strengthen the enemy’s resolve, not America's.
Like a terrorist himself, Daschle has no qualms about hijacking America so that he and his cronies might take over. At least now it is totally documentable that a high-ranking Democrat was the first one to break the bonds of America's bipartisan commitment towards winning the war on terrorism. Now, thanks to Senator Tom Daschle, a man who wishes to be our president, Osama bin Laden and his associates have another tool of our own country's design to use against us.
The disappointing Democrat on Capitol Hill quickly shut his mouth when it came time to eat his own words upon the news of American military casualties inflicted by the terrorist enemy at Gardez, where at least eight truly patriotic Americans made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and freedom. For me it is not ironic that the enemy's escalation of intense fighting and resistance came on the heels of Daschle's statements. It is possible that al Qaeda warriors received a message to rise up again from Daschle's cue, because they were expecting this type of "division" from America's leaders.
Democrats fearful of the President's current approval rating seem willing to help the enemy by committing character assassinations against our elected officials, even at a time when we as a country need their united leadership the most.
Daschle has allied with the enemy by criticizing the President's so-called shadow government. Terrorists also wish that our leaders would be more out in the open, making them better targets for assassination. Apparently Tom Daschle believes that only Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar have the right to camouflage themselves, while he demands that our leaders be less secretive. What is his motive for that? If it is what I think it is, Tom Daschle, the Senator from South Dakota, should be sent to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba to be with the other detainees there who, like himself, are seeking to destroy our nation.
America's war against terrorism is very, very serious business, so I wish divisive Democrats would quit trying to turn it into a joke; this time, however, I think the joke is really on them. Most intelligent Americans realize this is not the time for political correctness. We must fight fire with fire.
If you think Senator Tom Daschle's comments were harmless, just observe the floodgate of critical hammering the handling of the war in Afghanistan is now getting from media pundits who also took a cue from Daschle's partisan message. Because of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, they now believe it is okay to start ripping apart the President again. It's kind of like David Letterman cracking the first joke after September 11. Until that happened, all other comedians were hesitant to start laughing first. However, because of the recent loss of loyal military personnel in Gardez, Afghanistan, there is nothing funny about Daschle's comments anymore.
The way I see it, Americans have only two choices in this war against terrorism—and that's not between the Republicans or the Democrats. Our choice is between "united we stand" or "divided we fall"! Which side of that aisle are you on?
May God bless the United States, our military, and the Commander in Chief.
