Disagreement and Hate
By Joe Cadrain, Winsted
For the last few years there has been a continuous public relations campaign by a small minority to discredit the Winsted Health Center Foundation as well as individual leadership members. Some in this group have participated in the democratic process at the Center, but their proposals have been continually defeated by large margins. Prior to this period disagreements had been resolved through the democratic process of discussion and debate, which concluded with a voting process that determined the will of the majority. The democratic process worked then because people understood that government is based absolutely upon the principal of majority rule, and majority rule requires that the minority abide by the will of the majority.
Unfortunately, there are those in our community today who cannot or will not accept the fact that they are a small minority, and that they have failed to convince others that their views should be adopted. These moaners and groaners continue to show contempt for the majority, who freely give their time and energy to a cause they believe in. The three main dissenters of the democratic process have continually flooded our local newspapers with personal attack letters containing less than honest facts.
Disagreements and heated discussions are OK with me, but when you allow hate to control your moral judgements and you spew this venom on the public they will recognize you for what you are—poor, misguided souls. Hate destroys your ability to understand, your ability to reason, and your ability to acknowledge the difference between right and wrong. Personal character assassinations based on the name you were born with or a position you hold are a complete rejection of moral integrity.
We are now at a point in time when a tiny minority of corporators of a private organization are suing the majority because they are not getting what they want. I hope the majority responds to this "slap suit" by returning the favor toward those who refuse to honor the principals of the democratic process.
Have a nice day.
