A Biblical Hero
By Florence Vining Thomen, East Canaan
To those of you Christians who read your Bible daily, I ask the following thought-provoking question: Who, of all those Biblical persons, would you most like to meet when you enter heaven? Aside from the Lord and Jesus, that is.
I have often said that I would wish to meet Paul, that great apostle who is responsible for so many books of the New Testament. What a career he had, and what hardships he endured—in spite of a physical ailment which God allowed him to have!
If you recall, Paul was originally called Saul. (Acts 9:1) At that time, he was throwing good Christian men and women into prison. But one day he planned to go to Damascus, looking for more Christians to take by force. Remember, as he was on the road to Damascus, a light from Heaven shone about him; it was Jesus, who halted him and told him to go to the city. There he went and was filled with the Holy Ghost; that was the start of his living for Christ. Thereafter, he was known as Paul. His life was filled with many activities; there were trips to foreign places to convert many to Christianity. I admire his tenacity, or stick-to-it-iveness for Christ, through all kinds of adversity, persecution and physical torture.
Just to go from Saul, the persecutor, to Paul, the advocate for Jesus, is reason enough for me to admire him and want to meet him in the hereafter. Whom do you choose?
