Some Self-Evident Truths
By Bob Davidson, Collinsville
I hold these truths to be self-evident:
• John Walker is a spoiled brat raised by liberal parents. He has for years struggled to get the security and attention his parents failed to provide.
• The problems of inner city crime, unemployment and drug use will be solved only when there is a significant reduction in out-of-wedlock births.
• Mankind has always worshipped some god. It might have been fire, water or money.
• People who depend upon (worship) their own knowledge and understanding are not atheists. We know who their god is.
• Senators like Joseph Lieberman and others who have accepted campaign money from Enron cannot be trusted to investigate that company.
• Politicians want reforms, but the public wants reformed politicians.
• Having families testify in court during the sentencing process permits emotion to influence justice. A good actor or actress could inappropriately influence a jury. Skip the tears and consider the facts.
• Signs posted in high-crime areas, warning that no one committing a crime can outrun a bullet, would save lives.
• It is unfair that more money is spent on research for women's health than for men. They already outlive us by six years.
• Accidents, starving children and deaths are directly or indirectly the results of the actions of tyrants, dictators and criminals—not the police officers or nations who attempt to apprehend them.
• I'll be in trouble for presenting these facts.
