Edward Keeley to Conduct UMass Symphony Band
Edward Keeley will be the featured guest conductor of the University of Massachusetts Symphony Band during its concert on Sunday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Concert Hall on the UMass campus in Amherst. Mr. Keeley is past Director of Music at The Gilbert School in Winsted, and founder of the Laurel City Band. He has guest conducted and adjudicated bands in the New England area.
Mr. Keeley, who resides in Winsted with his wife Lorraine, studied conducting with Walter Beeler at Ithaca College, William Revelli at the University of Michigan, and Frederick Fennell of the Eastman School of Music. He was a member of the 336th U.S. Army Band prior to the beginning of his teaching career in Newport, NH. This was followed by a music position in Madison, NJ before he came to The Gilbert School in 1964. While at The Gilbert School, Mr. Keeley’s bands regularly achieved superior ratings at music festivals throughout the East, and performed in Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, California and Florida.
