Recipe for Joy
By Florence Vining Thomen, East Canaan
How do you feel as you realize it is time to roll out of bed? Many of you are grumpy, but some really do love to greet that brand new day, with all its adventures.
Why not try a new approach to the day? It is time to rise. Start stretching the arms, legs, feet, toes. Now your blood is starting to really circulate again—you are beginning to feel alive again.
Let's say it is around 6 a.m.; just listen to the awakening outside world. Do you hear those robins? They are indulging in their morning worship—telling their Maker how thankful they are to greet yet another joyous day. Can you do less? A brief "Thank you, Lord, for this new day" would be appropriate.
You are beginning to feel good. So start visualizing the great things that can happen to you today if you keep joy in your heart and a smile on your face. Pretend that your ill health is on the mend; happy thoughts induce better health. I'm told that imagining peace in war-torn areas actually helps your own well-being, as it also helps to produce better relations throughout the world.
Now imagine how it feels to be well again. Really feel well. That spring in your step, that lilt in your voice, that good feeling within you. Do you know that you can actually say "good-bye" to your ailment if you carry that "pretend" attitude constantly with you for a period of time? It's true!
Watch for more about this in a future article of mine in The Voice. Stay happy! And miracle power to you!
