WINSTED: Northwestern CT Community College Center for Holistic Studies offers "Plant Wisdom–Botany Simplified" with herbalist Alison Birks from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This course will explore the fascinating science of plant study in a way you may never have experienced before. If botany is a new subject for you, this will be a great hands-on introduction to the topic. Participants will learn about the plant kingdom by studying plant structure and physiology and how these combine to give different plants their unique properties. WINSTED: Beardsley & Memorial Library welcomes Holly Hassett, a licensed professional counselor with Northwest Regional Mental Health, Inc. from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Ms. Hassett will speak about "When Someone You Care About Has a Mental Illness." She will note that awareness and understanding are valuable to all members of the community, as mental illness strikes one of five Americans in any given year–regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or economic status. This presentation will include an overview of mental illness and resources for individuals and families, including a videotape on "A Parent’s Perspective on Mental Illness."
