Winsted Rotary Pet Parade

The 66th annual Winsted Rotary Pet Parade will be held on Saturday, May 18 (rain date is Sunday, May 19) starting at 2 p.m. sharp. This unique event invites the children of Winsted, New Hartford, Colebrook, Norfolk and Barkhamsted to parade down Winsted’s Main Street with their favorite pet in tow. The Rotary Club also sponsors a poster contest and prizes for the best floats for each age category. All the area bands, color guards and dignitaries have been invited to participate. Many grandparents and parents who once marched in the parade are now watching their own kids participate.

There are 12 different divisions that can be entered, such as small floats and wagons, famous people, scouts, bicycles, tricycles, self-propelled vehicles, and floats. Entry forms were handed out by the area schools and will be available on parade day; entries should be brought with participants to the parade. All entrants should form up along Meadow Street in their correct division between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m.

The completed entry form automatically makes you eligible to win a bicycle when it is turned in to the Rotarian in charge of your division. There will be two bicycles given away, a boy's and girl's, and the winner must be present.

So everyone get to work, dress up and show off your pet. Again this year, Charter Communications will be replaying the parade on community access channel 13. So be a star and join the fun!
