UNIONVILLE: Unionville Museum holds its 18th annual Ham and Bean Supper from 5-7 p.m. in the social parlor of the First Church of Christ Congregational (across the street from the Museum). Menu includes traditional New England baked beans and baked ham, potato salad, homemade cornbread, a variety of homemade pies, and beverages; hot dogs will also be available for children. Admission is $6 adults, $3 children (ages 5-12), under 5 free; tickets will be available at the door. For one hour before and after supper, the Museum’s current exhibit featuring the artwork of Farmington School System art instructors and staff will be on display.

TORRINGTON: Torrington Democratic Town Committee celebrates last November’s election of Mayor Owen Quinn and the Democratic slate with a Victory Party starting at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m., with dancing at 9 p.m. Congressman John Larson, Congressman James Maloney, gubernatorial candidate Bill Curry, Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, State Treasurer Denise Nappier, and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal are expected to attend. GREAT BARRINGTON: William R. Ferris, a Public Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, delivers the commencement address at the 33rd graduation ceremony at 11 a.m. on Blodgett Lawn at Simon’s Rock College. Dr. Ferris, a professor of anthropology, has written prolifically in the fields of folklore, American literature, music and photography. He founded and served for 18 years as director of the Center of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi in Oxford; under his leadership, the university developed the most comprehensive southern studies curriculum in the nation. HARWINTON: Town of Harwinton holds a Household Scrap Metal Collection for Harwinton residents only at the Town Garage from 8 a.m.-noon. Clean metal only; freon appliances require a fee, payable by May 10. WINSTED: St. Joseph’s Church holds a special Mass at 11 a.m. to administer the Sacrament of the Sick. The elderly and those with serious and chronic illnesses are invited to receive this sacrament. The event is coordinated by the Samaritans of St. Joseph parish; other parish members will provide transportation and assistance. WINSTED: First Church of Winsted, 95 Park Place holds its annual Ziti Supper with continuous servings from 4-6 p.m. This event has traditionally been a regular stop for the families of Pet Parade participants, with First Church being conveniently located along East End Park, where the parade finishes. Supper includes meat sauce, salad, bread, cake and beverages. Cost is $5 adults, $3 children (ages 4-12), ages 3 and under free; profits benefit the church’s scholarship funds. Tickets will be available at the door, or reservations can be made by calling the church office at 379-1778 or 379-2900.

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Volunteer Fire Company, 12 Main St. holds a Breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. The regular menu includes all the pancakes you can eat, sausage, coffee and juice for $4; French toast, eggs and home fries will also be available. A Hungryman’s Special including all of the above costs $5. Proceeds will help subsidize Fire Department equipment purchases; for more info call 860-283-9303. The fire department is also collecting non-perishable food items for a local food bank; a collection box will be set up during the breakfast.

EAST HARTLAND: Judge James P. Ginocchio speaks about Current Concerns Related to the Elderly at the Parish Hall; senior lunch begins at noon and the speaker will follow. The Honorable James P. Ginocchio currently sits on the bench at Danbury Courthouse; he received his appointment to Superior Court one year ago. He previously served as assistant public defender in Norwalk, and has been cited with prestigious awards from the Bridgeport Community Justice Coalition and the National College of Advocacy. WINSTED: An orientation program will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. for parents of 5th graders as part of Pearson Middle School’s annual Open House Celebration. Staff members will also be available to answer questions. (A similar program geared specifically for 5th graders will be held during the school day on June 4.)
