CANAAN: Daughters of Isabella sponsor a Ham Buffet Dinner at the VFW Hall on Route 7, with continuous serving from 5-7 p.m. Menu includes baked ham, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and beverage. CORNWALL: Rotary Club of Litchfield Hills meets at the Cornwall Inn on Route 7 at 8:15 a.m. Speaker will be Chris Smith with a "Briefing on Marvelwood School." Cost of $6 includes continental breakfast; the public is invited. For more info call Ann Treimann at 860-672-1114.

TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

WINSTED: United Methodist Church, 630 Main St. holds a Roast Beef Dinner from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Menu includes roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, homemade pie and beverage. Cost is $8.50 adults, $8 seniors, $5 children (under 12); for reservations call 379-6386, or 379-4454. The Church Mouse will be open during dinner for crafts and collectibles.

 

Monday, May 27

CANTON: The town’s Memorial Day Parade steps off promptly at 10 a.m. from the Canton Intermediate School; assembly line for participants will form at 9:30 a.m. Charles R. Hammond, Past Commander of American Legion Albert Johnson Post 90, will lead the line of march down Dyer Ave. to Maple Ave., Bridge St., Main St. and Center St. and on to the Village Cemetery for the ceremonies; Master of Ceremonies will be Lt. Col. Ralph M. Kilburn (U.S. Army), and Retired Major Roy Fox (U.S.A.R.) will be the principal speaker. The commemorative wreath will be placed at the cemetery by Past Post Commander Mitchell S. Bialicki, and the invocation and benediction will be given by the Rev. Ronald P. May, Pastor of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.

NEW HARTFORD: American Legion Post #28 hosts the Memorial Day ceremony in Chapin Park in Pine Meadow at 10 a.m. All veterans of New Hartford and their families are invited to a luncheon following the ceremony hosted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the Pine Meadow Firehouse.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center adult activities–Hyde Park day trip leaves at 8 a.m.; painting with friends (all artists welcome) from 9 a.m.-noon; Crafters Corner meets from 10 a.m.-noon; Senior bingo at 1 p.m.; Democratic Town Committee potluck dinner at 6 p.m.

NEW HARTFORD: A Community Clothing Swap will be held at North Congregational Church from 4-7 p.m. Bring your gently used clothing and shoes to trade for items swapped in by others. BANTAM: Veteran of the Month services will be conducted at 10 a.m. by American Legion Tyler-Seward-Kubish Post 44 at the All Wars Memorial on Route 202. This month’s ceremony will honor World War II and Korean War veteran Joseph S. Altieri of Torrington. Mr. Altieri passed away on December 24, 2000. CORNWALL: Rotary Club of Litchfield Hills meets at the Cornwall Inn on Route 7 at 8:15 a.m. Speaker will be Rotary high school exchange student Ting Chian Lin from Taiwan on "Rotary Youth Exchange."
