On Sunday, April 21 the Laurel Lanes Duckpin Youth Prep Division won the State Championship. They competed against teams from other bowling alleys across the state, with the bowlers all between the ages of 7 and 9. Their team consists of Nicholas Gables, Kristen Heller, Marshall Deane, Andrew Morin and Drew McCarthy. They captured the title with a score of 2138 with their handicap.
The team will now travel to Hagerstown, MD on June 28-30 in search of the National Duckpin Championship for their age group. Winning the state title means that their expenses for the nationals are all paid for. Also included in the weekend will be a Rock ‘N’ Bowl pizza party on Friday evening, competition on Saturday morning against other state champions, and a banquet on Saturday evening.
In recent national finals, Laurel Lanes has captured 2nd place three times, being just pins away from the national title. This year, the Prep Division is headed to Hagerstown with winning the championship as their goal. With their enthusiasm and skill, this goal is certainly attainable.
The Laurel Junior League bowls each Saturday morning at 11 a.m. from October through May at Laurel Lanes, Main St. in Winsted; the cost is $5 each Saturday.
