Sculpture at Noble Horizons

Twenty-eight pieces of sculpture in bronze, steel, marble, copper, limestone, wood and plaster have come from California, Wyoming, Mississippi, Canada, Boston, New York City, and the tri-state area in preparation for the June 2 opening of Sculpture at Noble Horizons (SNH). The outdoor sculpture show has drawn thousand of visitors to the park-like grounds of the Salisbury retirement village over the past three years.

Making their SNH debut at this year's show are two works that have been given to Noble Horizons by noted collectors Joyce and Harvey Gladstein. "Flashers" (1979) by Rosemarie Castoro marks the minimalist's transition to more figurative works suggesting the human form. Robert Butler's "Stainless Art" is a graceful, 15-foot-long, kinetic piece positioned on a grassy slope. Both pieces will remain on view as part of Noble's permanent collection.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, June 2 from 3-5 p.m. Many of the artists will be there, an exhibition catalogue will be available, and docents will escort visitors through the show. There will be live music and refreshments under a tent beside Noble's pond.

Another highlight of June 2 reception will be the opportunity to view lithographs by Rica Bando of Brooklyn in Noble's Life Long Learning Center gallery. Sculpture at Noble Horizons will be open every day through Labor Day. There is no admission charge.

Artists returning to this year's show are Masaru Bando, Bonnie Bradley, Steven Dono, William C. Harrington, Barry Woods Johnston, John Magnan, Timothy Mark, Binney Meigs, Patrick Pierce, Jon Riedeman, and Gerald Stoner. New to the show this year are Luc Bihan of Toronto; Mike Holleran of Great Falls, MT; Dan Bergman and Joseph Zahn of New York City; Kirsten Campbell, Matt Thomases and Bob Rivera of Brooklyn, NY; Cheryl Simon Ekstrom of Laguna Beach, CA; Ira Hill of Hattiesburg, MS; Jeff Mann of Arrowsic, ME; Oscar Newman (Bounding Warrior) of Hensonville, NY; Phillip Parks of Old Lyme, CT; Matthew Weber of Unionville, CT; Danielle Kremar of Boston; and Timothy Hochstetter of Bridgewater, CT.
