Peace in the Middle East
By Stanley J. Wosczyna, New Britain
The deadly confrontation in the Middle East demands the concern of all world inhabitants, for it has the potential to escalate into a world-shattering holocaust. Because of the role of the U.S. as a major participant in the quest to peacefully resolve the ever-growing crisis, it is important that Secretary of State Colin Powell accept his disappointments as temporary setbacks, and pursue his initial efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.
Since both Arabs and Jews are descendants of the prophet Abraham, they must have some friendly feelings toward each other, and thus be motivated to admit their mutual faults and not overvalue military superiority, which is transient—here today and gone tomorrow.
At this period of time, it is absolutely necessary to have a permanent peace in force that will be joyfully accepted by all combatants, for the methods of killing have advanced since Cain and Abel to the ultimate efficient stage, and are capable of destroying the world. A freely accepted, lasting peace would be of great aid in our war on our terrorists.
