Harmonious Soul to Perform in West Hartford
By Julianne Madrid

The women of Harmonious Soul are Andrea Barnes, Shola Cole, Kate Edgerly, Lyndsey Ellis, Beth Gambin, Julianne Madrid, Renee Rinaldi and Diane Rumrill.

Harmonious Soul is an all-woman a cappella group comprised of eight women from Connecticut and Massachusetts. We are a community of women committed to the presence of harmony and beauty in the world. Through our music we seek to inspire and inform the world around us. We originally met as members of the UConn a cappella group, Rubyfruit. After graduation, many of us decided to stay in southern New England and thus formed Harmonious Soul in 2000.

As Rubyfruit and Harmonious Soul we have had the opportunity to perform in various venues, including opening for Paul Stookey (of the famous trio Peter, Paul and Mary) at the First Congregational Church in Southington, as well as opening for the Indigo Girls at UConn. This past December we created a wildly successful benefit concert for RAWA (Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan). At this concert we were able to share our message of peace and equality for all people with a sold-out crowd.

Our music ranges from covers of contemporary rock such as Queen and Joan Osborne to more obscure folk, jazz, and classical songs.

On Saturday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m., we will be giving a concert at the Unitarian Meetinghouse, 50 Bloomfield Ave. in West Hartford. We invite everyone to attend; a donation of $10 is suggested. We promise the evening will be an extraordinary experience of fun, empowerment, and harmony.
