Seven Angels Theatre, located at Hamilton Park Pavilion on Plank Road in Waterbury holds AUDITIONS for the CT Comedy Festival on Saturday, June 29. Comedians selected from the first round of auditions will appear in a live show before an audience that evening and go on to a semi-finals round on July 13 with the possibility to appear in the 4th annual Laugh-Off on July 20, which will be taped for broadcast on CPTV; winners will receive cash prizes and guaranteed professional bookings. Auditions are open to men and women over 18 from CT, NY and NJ; both professionals and amateurs are welcome, and all comic acts will be considered including stand-up, comic impressions and prop comedy. 550 Gallery, 550 Main St. South (Route 63) in Bethlehem presents a SOUTHWESTERN ART SHOW from June 8 through June 22, with many works remaining on display through July. This exhibition features the award winning wildlife sculptures of Ken Newman, as well as Native American jewelry, pottery and fine art paintings. Newman uses a variety of woods, from wind-blown cedars, to vertical-grain redwoods, and water-worn driftwood to create his one-of-a-kind animal representations. New Arts Gallery, 513 Maple St. in Litchfield presents an exhibit by CHARLES CAJORI and BARBARA GROSSMAN through June 24. Charles Cajori's body of work relies on both drawing and his ability to energize his work with the gestural rhythm of mark-making; there is a tension and conflict that inhabit his paintings and drawings, bringing the viewer into the power of both process and image making. Color, line, form and space define the work of Barbara Grossman; while her paintings are primarily about interiors and women in them, they are not about specific interiors or specific women. Her concerns are more about the juxtaposition of her figures and objects in the space they inhabit and the relationship of colors that give her forms weight and mass. Salisbury Arsenal Chapter DAR presents FIRE IN THE HILLS, a slide program and lecture with Walter Landgraf on Tuesday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at Noble Horizons, Cobble Rd. in Salisbury. The Litchfield Hills, all of northwestern Connecticut, adjacent eastern New York and southwestern Massachusetts were involved in the charcoal and iron industry from the 1700s to the early 1800s, and some mining continued into the 1900s. The lecture's title reflects the night sky glowing with hundreds of fires making charcoal for the iron furnaces. Pictures of the iron industry as well as samples of ore, slag, charcoal and iron collected by Mr. Landgraf will be on display. Sunken Garden Poetry Festival presents Pulitzer Prize winning poet YUSEF KOMUNYAKAA on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Hill-Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Rd. in Farmington; award winning bluesman Guy Davis opens the program. This marks the beginning of the popular festival's eleventh season. Winsted Summer Theater Festival conducts an ACTING WORKSHOP for children (ages 8-13) at Batcheller Elementary School in Winsted on Monday through Thursday mornings, July 8 through August 1. Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of CT, 33 Mechanic St. in Windsor sponsors its annual SPRING SWAP MEET on Saturday, June 8 beginning at 7 a.m. in the museum parking lot. The swap meet offers a chance to buy, sell and trade old radios, televisions and other communications equipment. Collectors from all over the Northeast are expected to attend.
