Taxpayers, It's Up to You!

By Ann E. Fay, Winsted

Three cheers for the taxpayers of Winsted and Winchester who took the time to go and vote "NO" on the budget in the June 1 referendum!

Another budget meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, with another referendum to be held sometime in July. Taxpayers, please take the time to attend the meeting and vote in the new referendum. Vote against a higher budgetâ014for your own good. Can you afford higher taxes? Keep refusing to accept the budget until we, as taxpayers, are satisfied.

The leaders of Winsted have had their way for too many years and it is time for taxpayers to speak out and say "enough is enough." Send a message to the town manager and selectmen. Did we need a gazebo? Did we need to buy smoke cameras when the town could have obtained them free from the state? Did we need to have the town hall remodeled? If the footbridge had been properly maintained, would we have needed a new one? The answer is "NO."

It is up to the citizens of Winsted. Take a few minutes of your time to attend the budget meeting and vote in the referendum. In my opinion, our taxes are much too high and spending should be cut back. If this message isn't heard by our political leaders, maybe it is time to work towards changing our town's management.
