Winchester Democrats Endorse George Wilber
By Steven A. Sedlack

Mr. Sedlack is Chairman of the Winchester Democratic Town Committee.

At the June meeting of the Winchester Democratic Town Committee, members enthusiastically and unanimously endorsed the candidacy of Colebrook First Selectman George Wilber in his bid for the party’s nomination in the 63rd House district. The nomination was endorsed on a motion by William Riiska, Wilber’s high school social studies teacher, and seconded by Linda Moore, a classmate of his at the time.

It was noted that Mr. Wilber, with his extensive experience as a dairy farmer, would be an excellent advocate for the district, whose towns are mostly rural in character. I have talked at length with Wilber and I am impressed with his understanding of Winsted, its needs and its politics.

George has roots in the Winchester community. His family has lived here, he knows many people in town, and keeps up with town issues. We are not, essentially, a rural community, but George will know how to represent us well. He understands the pressures for funding municipal budgets and the need for property tax reform. And he is electable. His long tenure as a Democratic First Selectman in a Republican town is proof he knows how to work with people.

The Town Committee also endorsed the candidacy of Probate Court Judge Alan Barber, who will be seeking his fifth term in the Winchester District.
