Abortion Is the Taking of a Life

Gabrielle Bernard writes in support of abortion, denigrating Christian beliefs and surreptitiously equating them with Taliban terrorists [Homegrown Religious Fanaticism, June 7]. Her article contains many errors. By equating Christians with the Taliban, which is the liberal’s cause du jour, and stating that Tip O’Neil, Geraldine Ferraro and Mario Cuomo were superb public servants, she is telling us that she is a far-left liberal. Most liberals, though claiming to be Christians or Jews, throw out the Bible and all of its commands and admonishments.
First of all, 40 years ago–in college–I learned that life begins at conception. When the single-cell egg is fertilized it starts to grow. One cells divides and forms two, they divide and form four cells, then eight, sixteen, etc. until cells start differentiating into specific organ systems and the cell mass starts to take shape. If the first cell were a non-living entity it would not divide. It divides precisely because it is alive. A single-cell fertilized egg is at the first step of turning into a human. It is alive, it is the start of a new life. This is not an article of faith, this is unequivocal fact.
The "home-grown religious terrorists" who have assassinated doctors, bombed clinics and made death threats are not operating under God’s laws–God says, "Vengeance is mine." This type of behavior will be condemned by any true Christian. God will deal with the abortionists on His schedule in His ways. He does not command man to do His "dirty work" for Him.
Child abuse is rampant, I will agree. I believe it is because people are getting away from God’s ways or totally ignoring Him. Abortion cheapens life. If you can suction out a living being and kill him or her, then what value does an older life have? There are liberals who are advocating being able to kill a baby up to 30 days after a normal birth. These are not God’s ways.
Regarding the woman who had too many children and wanted to commit suicide because she was again pregnant and couldn’t use birth control because of Catholic rules: She needs to read the Bible. Nowhere does it condemn birth control. She is burdened by man-made laws.
Regarding the man being unable to use a condom to prevent the spread of AIDS to his wife and children: Why is he hampered by the man-made rule not to use condoms when he has violated God’s rule not to commit adultery? Where did he get AIDS? It was not from his uninfected wife!
Yes, there is religious fanaticism, by those who make their own gods. They are not obeying the Creator God, the Maker of the universe, the Maker of every living thing, including the living ovum and the living sperm.
My hope is that Ms. Bernard will pick up a Bible, and see for herself God’s rules for our lives. Better yet, attend a Bible teaching church, where God’s truths are expounded every week. She can see for herself the fallacies that the liberals are trying to propagate.
