Northwestern Athletic Hall of Fame
The Northwestern Athletic Hall of Fame is proud to announce the second class of inductees. Peter Avery, Mary Brady, Wayne Crossman, Megan Keefe, Mary Kent, John Pouzzner and Michael Sullivan will be inducted on October 6 as the second class of the Northwestern Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Northwestern High School Athletic Hall of Fame has been established to honor former Northwestern athletes, coaches, and others who have had a significant impact on Northwestern athletics. Criteria for all candidates include the highest ideals and standards of sports participation, such as good sportsmanship, integrity, honesty, self-sacrifice and determination.
All of these former athletes and coaches have had significant accomplishments while involved in the Northwestern athletic program. Peter Avery, 1958-68, was the school's first athletic director and baseball coach; Mary Brady, 1969-91, started the swim team; Wayne Crossman, 1969-73, scored 1,000 points while a member of the basketball team; Megan Keefe, 1988-92, was a three-sport all-star athlete; Mary Kent, 1972-76, was one of the first three-sport female athletes; boys tennis coach John Pouzzner, 1968-2001, led the team to a State championship in 2000; and All Star baseball player Michael Sullivan, 1974-78, was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds.
The dinner to honor these former athletes will be held on October 6 at 1 p.m. at the Cornucopia Banquet Hall in Torrington. Tickets will be available at the school or from a Hall of Fame committee member starting in August. Please call the athletic office at 860-738-6983 for more info.
