Prayer of a Working Man
By Ray Wilcox, Torrington
Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my savings to keep,
For evil forces on the "street" (wall)
Promise great rewards to keep.
So now my IRA can be safe
In the hands of gurus great
If I but hold my hands and sit and wait
For proffered prosperity which is
Just around the corner!
But do not ask which corner
Or when or where—
Believe "them" it is there
In their portfolios secure!
And in time their sinecure
Wilts on the vine and you're
An indigent.
