Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department 100th Anniversary Celebration
The 100th anniversary of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6. The plans include a parade at 4 p.m., a block party starting at 3 p.m., and a fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
The parade will have over 40 fire departments with over 66 pieces of fire apparatus from New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Drum corps bands will be marching with many of the fire companies. A total of more than 700 marchers are expected to participate. Judging will be done by the Connecticut Parade Marshal’s Association, who will award trophies in a variety of categories.
The block party will offer a variety of food and drink, a live band, and activities for both adults and children. The fireworks display will be one of the largest in northwest Connecticut, and will be best viewed from the block party in the center of town.
Traffic on Route 44 will be detoured around Norfolk for the duration of the parade, which will wind down Maple Avenue, past the reviewing stand in front of the town hall and on to Route 44, where it will turn onto Shepard Road towards the Norfolk Firehouse.
