Berkshire Botanical Garden Flower Show

The Berkshire Botanical Garden, Routes 102 & 183 in Stockbridge presents its 33rd annual Flower Show on Saturday and Sunday, August 3-4. Entries are invited, and the event will be open to the public on Saturday from noon-5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The theme of the Design Section will be "Around the World in Eighty Days." Conceived by co-chair Susan Detjens, a prominent regional artist and flower show expert, the Flower Show will have six design sections on world travel themes. In addition, there will be two special Youth Design and Horticulture (plant growing) sections for ages 5-12, repeating a highly popular format developed last year to encourage youth participation.

The Horticulture section will again feature all the traditional Vegetable and Flower classes as well as repeats of last year’s popular Heirloom and Organic Vegetables sections. With more than 100 categories of flowers, vegetables, herbs and potted plants in competition, hundreds of entries from scores of local gardeners are expected.

The Flower Show is for everyone—on the entry side as well as for spectators. Gardeners and flower arrangers of all levels of experience enjoy participating as contestants. Each year, many less experienced gardeners and lucky newcomers share in the bounty of ribbons, including the coveted blue ribbons for First in Class. The amateur’s fun in having his or her own lovingly grown flowers, vegetables and design arrangements on the display tables with the best in the county is an important part of the spirit of the event.

Gardeners wishing to participate may secure entry info from the Botanical Garden by calling 413-298-3926. Admission to the show is free with regular admission to the Garden grounds: $7 for non-member adults, $5 for seniors and students, free to members and children (12 and under).
