Art and Soul Theater Presents The Shadow Box

Musical theater might be alive and well here in the tri-state area this summer, but where do you go if you get a craving for, say, serious stimulating drama? Michael Baldwin and Emma Dweck, co-founders of the new Art and Soul Theater Project, believe they have the answer. Their directorial debut of The Shadow Box by Michael Cristofer will run on the Housatonic Valley Regional High School stage in Falls Village on Thursday through Saturday, July 25-27.

The Shadow Box, which won both a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize in 1977, is structured around three groups of people on the grounds of a hospice. One of the characters in each group is terminally ill, and the play is essentially an investigation into the way the dying and those who love them come to terms with their mortality. Heavy stuff, but Cristofer’s well-drawn characters are constantly surprising with their wit and humor.

Starring in this production are Evan Downey, Asher Lipson, Christine Plass, Matt Braundsdorf, Hannah Edgerly, Abigail Wood, Kyle Boynton, Brook Rosini and Zachary Rudes. The house opens at 7:40 p.m. and the curtain rises at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door; suggested donation is $7. Parents are advised that there is some adult subject matter.
