Step Into the Marvelous Will of God

By Rev. Daniel Bossidy

Rev. Bossidy is Pastor of Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Torrington.

Greetings to you on this beautiful summer's day. The Lord is wonderful to us! He is moving by His Spirit and calling people to salvation.

July was a very busy month for us. We were blessed to have Pastor Ngoy from the Congo with us, and a group of people from World-Wide Lighthouse Missions with him. The things he spoke to us about both touched and challenged us as he described what is happening in Africa right now. Please pray for him, his family, and the churches in Africa. I want to especially thank those of you who have sent support to WWLM, for God is moving despite everything that is going on! Jesus is still building His church and though it seems that hell itself rages sometimes against the church, Jesus said it will not prevail!

We also had our Vacation Bible School. This year was different because I was not going to have it. But I did not want to miss God, so I made a few calls and sent a group of people out from our church to invite families who had children in the neighborhood to our VBS. We had an excellent response! Three of the children who came had never been to our church before, and the others had not been here for a while. We learned about heroes in the Bible, and we learned that heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things with the help of the Lord. It was a great week for us all!

A few weeks ago, a man visited our church for the first time. At the end of the service we offered prayer for people. After praying for several people, I went to him and prayed. I remember praying for his lungs, heart, and metabolism (he did not specifically ask for prayer for any one thing). The next service came and this man got up to testify. He said that he was a smoker for over forty years and even though he had quit a few years ago, his lungs were damaged by the smoking. He needed a machine to pump air into his lungs at night. The night he received prayer, he woke up in a panic. At first he thought he wasn't getting enough air, but when he calmed down, he realized he was getting too much air and had to turn the machine off! The Lord had given his lungs more elasticity! So far he has not used the machine since receiving prayer.

All too often we only look at the facts of a situation, but rarely look beyond to the truth of the matter. Jesus is the truth, and if we can touch Him by faith, what He said becomes our reality! It did for this man, and the Lord became the breath of his nostrils. (Lam. 4:20)

The other night we brought the Scripture that says, "Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken." (Prov. 3: 25, 26) The word "afraid" here means anything that causes you to be dismayed, or anything that robs you of courage or power to act effectively. We need to simply take our Bibles and do what the Scriptures tell us to do—without reasoning it out, worrying about what others will say, etc.

Many people are afraid of committing their lives to the Lord and His church. They like to stay where they are, in their "comfort zones." But by definition, they are actually living in fear: afraid to do and afraid to change into the image of Christ Jesus. Fear robs you of life. The Bible teaches us not to be heady or high-minded but to esteem others better than self. This gets your mind off of yourself, and removes your own limitations, because now the Lord has become your confidence. The Bible says "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Phil. 4:13)

Let me encourage you today to step into the marvelous will of God, to reach out to a lost and dying generation, and allow the Holy Spirit to use you for the glory of God. Tell someone that Jesus loves them and died for their sins. They need not be filled with the things of the world, but they can be filled with the Spirit of God!

I invite you to attend our services at Full Gospel Lighthouse Church. We are located at 624 Torringford West St. in Torrington. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. God bless you and remember, we are praying for you!

P.S. — Please be sure to watch The Word of Life, a television broadcast hosted by my dear friend, Rev. Eleanor Kalinsky of the Full Gospel Interdenominational Church of Manchester, CT. It is on your local PAX station and the times are Sunday from 9-9:30 a.m., and Wednesday from 7-7:30 a.m.
