A Tribute to My Mother
By Arlene Ascenzo, Torrington
I’ll never forget my mother or the kind of woman she was. Though it’s not Mother’s Day or her birthday, she still comes to mind. My mother passed away in the early 90s of lymphoma. I’ll always remember the goodness in her.
She was a religious woman, very family oriented. She had many hobbies such as cooking, sewing, reading, and an appreciation of cultural things. I have one fond memory of her cooking her famous recipe of risotto for a Sunday dinner. This especially warms my heart. She had a number of close friends, and she and my father made a very striking pair.
My mother was very nurturing to me as a child growing up. She was there when we were sick and she always encouraged us to follow our dreams. I’ll never forget the special poetry book she bought for me later on as I grew older, because she knew I liked to write. I’m sure my brother and sister also have very fond recollections of her.
May she continue her glory in heaven, where I am certain she is at peace with the Lord.
