Political Choreography
By Joe Cadrain, Winsted

Recently local school board members received a disreputable letter from the Winchester Democratic Town Committee (WDTC), dated July 31. This letter appears to have been written by one of Winchester's education unions and passed on to me via the WDTC. I have verified that there are over 100 Connecticut education support organizations in the state of Connecticut, but your group was not on the list. Should you like to be listed, please notify the State of Connecticut.

Your letter of condemnation of all school board members for not doing your will—while praising one member who continually supports any and all plans, suggestions, wants etc. from any and all in the education community—is repulsive. Your elitist attitude and narrow thinking make me wonder if you are in touch with reality or with those you are supposed to lead. Your illogical concerns regarding school board issues is typical of the educratic code of greed first, children last. Because of past practices that you suggest we subscribe to, our student costs are at the high end of the scale while student test scores are at the low end of the scale.

We, the present Board of Education, minus one, conduct school business with the best interests of the children in mind while being aware of our fiduciary responsibilities. We are not obligated to submit to the will of a small group of unreasonable educrats who are constantly trying to force the community to support the introduction of new high-cost programs into the failed public education system.

Your assumption that a small group of discontents represents a community, especially when many of you are involved directly or indirectly in the education community, is laughable. It is my sincere hope that Winchester's Democrats denounce your disingenuous conduct and say enough is enough from a group of clanging bells.

I extend a thank you to everyone who has called or sent messages to express their support of my actions as a school board member. Being a school board member requires considerable time, effort, endurance and understanding should you do anything other than say just plain "yes" to the educrats.

Have a nice day.
