Lawmakers Asked to Sign Taxpayer Protection Pledge
The Coalition for CT has announced an expansion of its Taxpayer Protection Program. All lawmakers serving the state—in both houses of the state legislature as well as the U.S. Congress—are being asked to make a personal commitment to oppose and vote against all future efforts to increase taxes; other candidates for these offices will also be asked to make the same commitment to citizens. Phase I of the undertaking will focus on incumbents, while Phase II will focus on challengers.
A letter inviting lawmakers to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge has been sent to all State Representatives and State Senators, to the members of the Connecticut delegation to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, and to the Governor. Connecticut's incumbent U.S. Senators are included for consistency and coverage, although neither seat is up for election this year.
The Taxpayer Protection Pledge states: "I pledge to the Taxpayers of [my] District of the State of Connecticut and to all the people in this state, that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes." Similar pledges are used for statewide offices.
Each month, CFC will announce who has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge so voters will know which candidates have committed to voters that they will not be a party to their growing tax burden. For more info about the Taxpayer Protection Pledge or the Coalition for CT, call 860-677-4776.
