LITCHFIELD: The entire Jewish community is invited to gather at 11:15 p.m. for an evening of friendship, study and prayer at a community Selichot observance at the Litchfield County Jewish Community Center, 367 Bantam Rd. (Route 202). The Selichot service is composed of prayers which are a preparation for the period of self-examination about to begin that occurs between Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur, which culminates in Tshuvah. The service takes place each year after the conclusion of the Sabbath before Rosh Hashanah. The evening will begin with a 45-minute lecture titled "No Confession in JudaismWhy?" delivered by Rabbi Joseph I. Eisenbach, who will discuss how to repent the Jewish way. A 25-minute Selichot service will conclude the evening; coffee and light refreshments will be served. There is no charge for this event or for any of the high holiday services, and no membership is necessary. For more info call 800-297-6864.

HARWINTON: The Harwinton Democratic Town Committee meets at 7 p.m. at Harwinton Public Library, 80 Bentley Drive. Political, civic and corporate strategist Dr. Robert J. Flower of Bronxville, NY will be the guest speaker. Dr. Flower has enjoyed numerous civic, political and business project successes, and has run successful political campaigns for many candidates and causes. His most recent political victory, in the 2001 election, was to maintain term limits in the city of Yonkers, NY, which he did against strong and well-financed opposition.
