Audition for Joyful Noise Children’s Choir

Joyful Noise, Inc. holds auditions for its esteemed children's choir Chorus Angelicus (The Angelic Choir) on Monday and Tuesday, September 16-17 from 4-7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Torrington. Auditions are open to children ages 8-10 who possess a strong voice, a good ear and have a basic knowledge of music theory. Some sight-singing skills are helpful. Chorus Angelicus rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m.

Chorus Angelicus is separated into two divisions: Senior (senior choristers and choristers) directed by Paul Halley; and Junior (junior choristers and tyros) directed by Elizabeth Allyn. Those accepted into Chorus Angelicus enter at the tyro level.

The Chorus Angelicus Training Choir was developed by Elizabeth Allyn in 1998 to address the growing need for quality ear and vocal training among younger singers, ages 6-8. There is no audition necessary, just a love of singing. Membership in the Training Choir offers experience and skill building to the child who has high interest and potential but who may lack the confidence or ability to pass an audition at this time. Many of the children in the Training Choir go on to audition for Chorus Angelicus. Training in this choir centers on the development of healthy singing and work on music theory, ear-training and stage presence. The Training Choir rehearses on Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m. Karen Sovak is the current director of this program. Spaces are limited.
