Norfolk Lions Plan Events for Upcoming Year

Sandy Evans, president of the Norfolk Lions Club, announced at the recent monthly meeting of the club that they would sponsor a rummage sale on Saturday, October 12 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Botelle School cafeteria. The purpose of the announcement was to solicit contributions from the members for the sale, as well as to inspire them to request additional contributions from their friends and neighbors. Evans has arranged for these contributions to be received and stored at three convenient Norfolk locations: the Pharmacy on Station Place; the Town Hall on Maple Ave.; and the National Iron Bank on John Curtiss Way. The rummage sale will be under the overall direction of Jo Ann Munch; for more info call 860-542-6084.

President Evans also announced a series of events that the Lions Club will sponsor in the coming year. Charlotte Tharp will be in charge of the chrysanthemum sale on September 7, while Judy Ludwig will oversee the ham dinner in the Botelle School cafeteria on September 29. In addition to the rummage sale in October, the Lions will conduct an apple and apple product sale on Station Place on October 26. The Strosahls, Tim and Sue, will direct that sale.

Anne Moses, the past president, will coordinate a Blood Drive/ Flu Shot Clinic at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall on November 11. John Funchion will chair an action committee which will put on a pasta dinner in mid-February. On a day yet to be designated in March, Barbara Mulville will conduct an AARP driving seminar in the meeting room over the National Iron Bank.

Sandy Evans herself will chair the group that will present a pancake breakfast on April 6. A whole host of Lions will distribute flags to the spectators at the annual Memorial Day Parade toward the end of May.

On June 21, Colin Tait will run the ever-successful tag sale on the Village Green and John Funchion will preside over the popular Fire Fly Festival on the evening of the same day. The Village Green will also be the scene for an Ice Cream Social to be held on July 19; Peggy Cusick will be the principal scooper.

In addition to sponsoring the ambulance and the ambulance corps for the Town of Norfolk, the Lions Club has approved an array of charitable causes that it will help underwrite. The money realized from the year’s events will be distributed to these causes, especially those sanctioned by the Lions Club International.
