Litchfield Hills Touring Guide

The 40-page Litchfield Hills Touring Guide, published by the Litchfield Hills Visitors Bureau, offers 20 great ways to take in the fall foliage by car, foot or boat in the region recognized by National Geographic Traveler as one of the 50 most scenic places in America. Each itinerary has detailed maps and descriptions of highlights along the way, with easy to follow directions, including the mileage and the time suggested for the route.

Among eight half- and full-day driving tours are two routes for antique buffs and one designed especially for photographers. Eight themed bicycle tours range from farm forays to riverside rambles and spins around village greens.

Eight intriguing hiking trails include romantic forest walks, natural wonders, a river walk, scenic views atop Connecticut’s highest peak, and trails in the footsteps of northwest Connecticut’s woodland Indians. Canoers and kayakers will find a choice of easy to challenging on the Housatonic and Farmington Rivers. A list of the best ponds and lakes for paddling is also included, along with a roster of rental outfitters and phone numbers to check on water conditions.

An index makes it easy to find attractions and lodging in each of the region’s towns. Copies of the touring guide are available from the Litchfield Hills Visitors Bureau, PO Box 968, Litchfield, CT 06759; phone 860-567-5214. You can also find this info on the Bureau’s website, <www.litchfieldhills.com>.
