In Memory of David Boutin
By Arlene Boutin, Winsted
I am writing this letter to honor the memory of David Boutin of Colebrook, who passed away on September 5.
Since May, David and his family have been faced with some very difficult times, only made worse by poorly written newspaper articles plagued with inaccurate information about an unfortunate incident that occurred at the time. It is painful to realize that this incident and the detrimental articles that followed left an honorable, good man at a point where he could no longer handle the pain and defamation that these stories were creating for him and his family. It is vital to understand what a powerful impact words can have.
Anyone who knew David as a person knows that he was a kind, compassionate and caring man. He was the type of person who would help anyone in need, friend or stranger, never expecting anything in return. David spent many years caring for an elderly neighbor and friend who had no family of his own to help him. From holiday dinners to rides to the doctor’s office, David was there to lend a hand, never receiving or expecting anything. He was never merely the paid handyman as newspaper articles reported, but instead a generous, caring friend trying to do good for someone in need.
David was a loving and supportive husband to his wife, helping her every step of the way as she worked full-time, cared for two children, and continued her education to earn her degree. One of his proudest accomplishments, David was a loving father to his two sons, always encouraging and teaching them to be the best person they could be. His sons are shining examples of what a wonderful parent he was, the true reflection of the kind and loving character of their father.
David will be sorely missed by his family as well as his many friends. It is a real tragedy that the pursuit of vengeance, the inaccuracy of newspaper articles, and the many whispered rumors caused David to feel that the future held no promise for him and his family. It is truly a shame that some people are so quick to judge and condemn without knowing the facts.
I know David would be very thankful for the outpouring of love and support that his family has received during this difficult time. To the townspeople of Colebrook, God bless each and every one of you who have stepped forward to stop by or make a meal, kindly taking a moment to help the family get through each day. Your generosity has been absolutely amazing.
I have been a part of the Boutin family for 30 years and David is as much a brother to me as my own brothers. It has been a gift to have him as part of our family. May he rest in peace.
