Pegasus
By Arlene Ascenzo, Torrington

I was thinking a little about mythology and remembered the flying horse Pegasus. As a young child I had a sincere interest in horses. One night I even dreamt of a flying horse. At about the age of nine, I had a ceramic and plastic horse statue collection. I was about five years old when I had an imaginary horse that took me to various places.

My niece took an interest in horses as a young girl. She was given horseback riding lessons until she was thrown from a horse. That put an end to that. I guess maybe she inherited her interest in horses from me.

Horses are beautiful creatures. As you ride to Goshen or Litchfield, sometimes you can see them grazing in a field along the road. Their arched backs and long torsos make them an animal of attraction.

Getting back to Pegasus, the flying horse with wings, I guess we can all say that somewhere in our hearts lies a longing for the heavens. And may God bless all creatures on this earth, large and small.
