"Celebrate Sharon" Honors Local Volunteers

The citizens of Sharon benefit from the contributions of volunteer organizations and services in countless ways. And to recognize the hundreds of dedicated people who enhance Sharon's quality of life, the Sharon Community Council is sponsoring "Celebrate Sharon." On Saturday, October 5 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Sharon Green, there will be a wide variety of interesting exhibits and events to give visitors a better understanding of the varied ways in which these volunteers support them. More than 30 volunteer organizations and services will present exhibits that explain the services they offer.

Special events will include a vehicle extraction demonstration by the Sharon Fire Company, a canine demonstration by the CT State Police, a walking tour of Sharon Green, and a Hawk and Owl presentation by Audubon Sharon. Music will be provided by a variety of local talent, including Dave Paton's New World Ceili Band, Country Spice, the Paton Family, and the Scott Heth Jazz Trio.

In addition, there will be ongoing activities throughout the day, including blood pressure screening by the Sharon Ambulance Squad, child car safety instruction by the CT State Police, face painting by Sharon Day Care, plus an open house at the newly-renovated and enlarged Sharon Historical Society. Of course, food and drink will also be available.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Sharon to learn more about their neighbors and the services they provide that help us all," said Ella Clark, Chairman of the Sharon Community Council. "It also gives us the chance to say ‘thank you’ to all of these selfless volunteers." For more info call 860-364-1003.
