TORRINGTON: State Representative Roberta Willis, a candidate for re-election in the 64th District of the CT General Assembly, holds a fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. at Artwell Gallery, 19 Water St. In addition to helping secure Representative Willis bid for re-election, this event is intended to showcase and celebrate the talent of area artists. TORRINGTON: Friendly Hands Food Bank holds its 5th annual Pasta Dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at St. Francis School, 360 Prospect St. Donation is $6, children (age 6 and under) free.
WINSTED: The Guidance Dept. at Isabelle M. Pearson Middle School will distribute Interim Progress Reports for all students in grades 6-8. Parents are asked to sign the progress reports and return them to the childs homeroom teacher; for more info call 379-7588.
WINSTED: Winsted AARP #1051 meets at 1:30 p.m. in the recreation room at Chestnut Grove. Attorney Alan Barber, Judge of Probate in Winsted, will address topics such as wills, trusts, etc. The Board of Directors will meet at 12:30 p.m.

BANTAM: Veteran of the Month services will be conducted at 10 a.m. by American Legion Tyler-Seward-Kubish Post 44 at the All Wars Memorial on Route 202. KENT: Kent Resident Trooper Asman will be at Kent Memorial Library, 32 North Main St. (Route 7) at 11:30 a.m. to provide CT State Police Emergency Child Information Packets to parents. Part of the process includes Trooper Asman taking photos and fingerprints of the children and putting this information in a packet for parents to keep. GREAT BARRINGTON: Great Barrington Council on Aging sponsors a seminar from noon-4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church. The topics to be explored include legal issues for seniors, credit reporting, how to make home repairs affordable, local banking services available to seniors, remainder life planning, budgeting, property tax issues, equity depletion, and the use of credit cards. Paula Almgren will speak and will be available to answer legal questions. Members of the banking community will speak about the bankers role in refinancing and how seniors can be protected. Len Raymond from the HOME program will discuss the use of available resources and equity depletion. The USDA will have advice about how to make your home repairs affordable, and pointers on choosing a contractor will be discussed. GREAT BARRINGTON: Claire Teague Senior Center hosts a presentation by Guy Morin on the British Soldier in the American Revolution at 11 a.m. Guy will appear as a fully uniformed and equipped soldier of King George III and will discuss the clothing, equipment and weapons from this period of history. His presentation will include an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and to see many of the items carried and used in the 18th century. REGIONAL REFUSE DISTRICT #1: Regional Refuse Disposal District #1, which serves the towns of Barkhamsted, New Hartford and Winchester, holds a Household Hazardous Waste Collection from 9 a.m.-noon. Residents may bring in household hazardous wastes that cannot be disposed of normally in their trash, such as paint thinners, solvents, pesticides, drain cleaners, herbicides, and automotive chemicals. These items should be left in their original containers; unidentified waste may not be accepted. Residents may also, at no charge, exchange a mercury-containing thermometer used for taking body temperature for a new non-mercury unit. For more info call 379-1972.
