Cancer Education Series at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital

Newly diagnosed cancer patients, their families and friends are invited to "Cancer Challenges," a free public education series at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, 540 Litchfield St. in Torrington. The series runs for six consecutive Wednesdays, October 9 through November 13 from 6-8 p.m.

The sessions will cover facts about cancer and the latest treatments, coping with side effects, communication skills and family dynamics, relaxation and stress reduction, exercise and nutrition, and spirituality. Presenters include Dr. Debra Brandt of Northwest Oncology Hematology Associates, massage therapist Verilee Herpich, movement therapist Ruthellen Griffin, radiology RN Terry Corbo, Reverend Scott Cady, and other experts on nutrition, exercise, and symptom management.

Over the years, participants in this program have not only benefited from the educational content, but also from the interaction with other cancer patients and families learning to cope with the cancer experience.

Free refreshments and handouts will be provided. For more info or to register, call 860-496-6396.
