Congratulations to Banks-R-Us
By Jim Barber III, Winsted
As a sort of follow-up to my article "Where Have All The Pool Players Gone?" [August 16], congratulations are in order for longtime area pool player Glenn Towle and his teammates, Captain George McDonald, Jr., Randy Moore and Mike Shimels, Jr. These gentlemen make up the Banks-R-Us pool team that plays in the six-team New England Billiard League (NEBL-BCA) out of Connecticut Billiards in Torrington.
This team participated in a two-day NEBL pool tournament in Plaistow, New Hampshire on September 21-22 and won a trip to the BCA National Tournament at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. They will receive airfare, rooms, and entry into their choice of the BCA National 8-Ball Tournament or 9-Ball Tournament.
They also participated in another NEBL Regional Tournament on September 28 in Somerville, Massachusetts, where they won the right to play for another trip to the Nationals. If they win, they will be going to Las Vegas for both tournaments (8-Ball and 9-Ball).
Best of luck to the Banks-R-Us pool players. Anyone wishing to get involved in this growing and enjoyable league should visit Connecticut Billiards on a league night (Mondays from 6-10 p.m.), or see Jim Barber. Yes, trips to Las Vegas are being won in the NEBL. Ask Banks-R-Us!
