The Last Home Game
By David R. Zukerman, NYC and Winsted

On Wednesday, October 2, I took some photos in the vicinity of Yankee Stadium. This photo of the great ballpark was taken shortly before the gates opened at 6 p.m. I never imagined, when I clicked the shutter on this scene, that it would be the last day that fans would be assembling to see the Yankees play in New York in 2002. I was certain that the playoff with Anaheim would return to the Bronx, and that more games would follow as the World Series approached.

Just why did this Yankee season come to such an abrupt end in California? A thought has occurred to me that I have not heard or seen repeated elsewhere: perhaps there was a divine decree that the Yankees fail to advance, if only to prevent a certain former mayor of New York City from gloating after another Yankee post-season win.
